1 June 2008 Hello again, and this will likely be the last update until the end of July. I also want to say here what a wonderful time everyone had at the cadet campout hosted by our Deputy Commander of Cadets, LT Rangel, and those who assisted him with the set up. I was thrilled to see our cadets get out and enjoy themselves so much, and I did not have the burden of planning and follow through. SM/Lt Rangel secured the location, took care of the activities, purchased the food, and he and Lt Reisher set up and carried it all out. Thanks goes to Sue Stack for meal preparations and first aid to the many blisters. I also want to add my thanks to the Cadet staff and Seniors who have worked to assist our newer cadets in getting prepared for our ES missions. Your efforts have paid off, and we saw our first Wing SAREX cadet-participant this weekend in at least three years. This may not sound like much to squadrons who have had many cadets at many SAREX's for years, but for SSCS, it is a milestone that shows our progress, and I am proud of the work everyone has done in support of this result. Congrats goes to Mason Hammack for being the first, and I am sure all of our other cadets who have been working hard toward this goal will get to have their turn soon. |

As stated before, in order to participate in SAREX's, cadets must have their Curry, OPSEC training, GES 116, the FEMA I-100, and the 117 - 1; and seniors must have their Level 1, OPSEC, GES 116, FEMA I-100, and non-aircrew must have the 117 - 1. Aircrew trainees need all listed above, except the GES 117 – 2 is substituted in place of the 117 - 1. (The GES 116 part 2 is now the FEMA course, so if you did 116-2, you're fine.) Here are the links: https://tests.cap.af.mil/opsec/main.cfm (OPSEC) http://training.fema.gov/EMIWeb/IS/is100.asp (FEMA tests) In order to get this done for those who may need access to a good computer, Rod Kagy has 2 , a nd is willing to assist anyone in ge t t ing this done. (Thanks to Mrs. Kagy for also putting up with us.) See Maj Kagy at a meeting for further info. New members also need to set up their own account on eServices by going to this link and following the directions. https://www.capnhq.gov/default.aspx However, and just as important, your height, weight, and eye & hair color must also be entered into the computer and your 101 Card printed to take with you, or you may not be admitted to the SAREX activity. If you have a digital photo that can be used, it too will need to go into the link for the 101 Card on eServices. To get started, do the online tests first. We will help you with the rest. When you finish all teh online test, s end an e-mail to me with your CAP ID #, your hair and eye color, your height and weight, and a digital picture if you have one, and I will enter all of that if you do not find a way to do it for yourself. I do not want anyone missing an exercise because they were having computer issues!!!! Seniors :Look for e-mails. Cadets : If you are interested in participating in the Graded SAR-EVAL, below is a list of cadets and what they have/need. If you have the OPSEC training and are not listed here, please let your Chain of Command know. Web links to these tests are listed above. You can do this from your home!! HAS NEEDSBlaylock all Cavanah OPSEC GES 116 & I-100 Dailey all Dev all Dhamers all Gill all Hammock all Murray OPSEC/GES Nelson all Rangel all Reisher all Repine OPSEC Schlich all Snyder OPSEC GES 116 & I-100 Stack (both) all Theibert all For the newer cadets, it should be noted on the promotion contracts that the 'Activities' portion means you have to participate in something outside of the regularly scheduled meetings at least once for each grade promotion. That means the BME, the SAREX, WTA, ESTA, the squadron campout, or an activity in June. I will count Warbirds even though we are not working it this year. Please see the info on the McChord Air Expo: http://www.wawg.cap.gov/Pages/cadetprograms.html This is close to home, and less expensive than other air show activities, but you are welcome to apply for any event. For any of the events listed on the Wing website, cadets will need to print these forms and bring them to a meeting by June 19 th for my signature. http://wawg.cap.gov/PHP/pages/Forms/wwform23.doc http://wawg.cap.gov/PHP/pages/Forms/wwform24.doc And lastly, PLEASE consider going to Basic Encampment. Many other summer activities such as the Flight and SAR Academies require the Basic Encampment as a prerequisite. Scholarships are available, and there are money earning opportunities that you can participate in, so DON'T miss encampment over money. This event is listed as August 6 – 16; however, I believe the 1 st three days are for staff only. More info will be forth coming, but this is also a high priority event. Thank you,
